First Malaysian Open Champion

Another precedent made at the 19th IGB Malaysian Chess Festival 2024 that was held at Cititel Mid Valley, Kuala Lumpur from September 12 to September 22 – a Malaysian wins the Malaysian Open in 19 years !!

IM Poh Yu Tian, already with the knowledge there was no GM norm to target for since he is top seed, higher rated that all the players in the Malaysian Open. But that didn’t seem to water down his energy and determination judging from his results. He wins first place, half a point ahead of the rest of the field with a performance rating of 2554.
